Compare and Contrast: Education Systems

For my essay I will be comparing and contrasting the education systems of the United States and that of Finland. My purpose will be to evaluate each of the education systems and choose which I believe is the better education system. I chose this topic because, as being a student in the United States, I had always wondered why when stacked up against other well developed countries the US ranked so poorly in comparison. Through this essay I hope to learn possibly some of the reasons why the US is falling behind other countries, such as Finland.

  3. Our public education system definitely needs some work, I never understood why the education of our youth isn't more of a priority. After all, these kids are one day going to be running the country. Nice topic choice!

  4. Really great topic! That's interesting that there is only one standardized test administered in Finland.

  5. Jennica,

Nice job on the Venn diagram. I am very interested to see the outcome of your compare and contrast paper. Have you ever been a student in a different country? Ever aspire to be one? Seems like a pretty interesting topic. Good luck!

This will definitely be an interesting topic. I am curious why you chose Finland? I think that American schools emphasize testing too much. It wears down students (and teachers, who have to teach to the test). Teaching in public schools, I know I will be opting my own children out of mandated states tests. Can't wait to see how your research supports your claims.

    1. Hello! I chose Finland because when I searched for the best education systems it was on of the first hits to pop up. I also chose it because Finland seemed to put in less effort than other countries and still receive tremendous outcomes.
